South Korea goes to open city to prepare Liaison Office
According to the South Korean media, according to the consensus reached by the high level talks, the South Korean delegation visited the Kaesong industrial park in June 8th to prepare a North and South Joint Liaison Office in the park, according to the consensus of the high-level talks.
This was due to the fact that the South Korean Industrial Park was forced to close after the tense situation between North and South in February 2016. The South Korean personnel visited the Kaesong industrial park after 2 years and 4 months.
It was reported that the mission was carefully examined on the same day of the comprehensive support center of Kaesong Park, the KT communication center, the Korea Exchange Association and the staff dorm. Although most of the equipment is in good appearance, some machinery and equipment are already unusable because of the long time shelving after the closed City Industrial Park is closed. It needs to be refurbished and maintained.
The United States Ministry of Republic of Korea (ROK) said that in order to implement the follow-up measures to open the liaison office as soon as possible, the two sides will continue to consult on the refurbishment of the joint liaison office facilities, according to the results of the site investigation. After the two parties jointly finalized the location of the liaison office, the temporary Liaison Office will be set up before the renovation of the office, which aims to solve the specific measures for the reopening of the supply and water supply needed for the opening of the Kaesong industrial park.
The Korean government said that, despite the active promotion of exchanges and cooperation between the two Koreas and the implementation of the relevant agreements reached in the declaration of the Panmunjom, the United Nations Security Council has not lifted the sanctions against the DPRK.
